I've never been a huge fan of football. However, a 'sport' that pays people millions for running after a ball holds at least a little of my attention, so I follow football on the news. A few minutes ago, I heard that Rashidi Yekini passed. It is very sad news. I remember watching USA '94 with my family and remembering the passion with which
Rashidi Yekini tore at the net after he scored the goal against Bulgaria, Nigeria's first in the World Cup. That iconic image reminds me of so much passion and love for a sport I hardly understand, and of being Nigerian, which I still understand.
Nigeria will miss Rashidi Yekini. Even I, the football illiterate, will miss what he stood for.
